The Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort We are happy to feature this fine resort in this issue. Although we haven’t visited it yet, we have known the Director of Golf Promotion, Doug Schmidt for many years. We will be visiting the resort in the near future to finish our report, and add Innisbrook to our website. Remember to watch the PGA Tour Chrysler Championship at the Copperhead course from October 26-29. You will get a real good idea of the quality this resort offers. The Resort is set on 900 wooded acres of rolling hills and 70 acres of lakes. Twenty-eight guest lodges house the 620 guest suites, each featuring a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, small appliances including coffee maker. Separate bedroom or bedroom area. All accommodations are non-smoking. Four onsite championship golf courses, all designed by Lawrence Packard, and extensive recreational facilities provide the backdrop for the resort. The Innisbrook golf experience is unparalleled to any other golf destination. Innisbrook’s famed course layout, the Copperhead, is home to the PGA TOUR’S Chrysler Championship. This course has been ranked Florida’s #1 Course and one of "America's Top 75 Resort Courses" by Golf Digest. Like its namesake, the Copperhead winds through pine forests and rolling hills, more reminiscent of the Carolinas rather than Florida’s west coast. Par 71; 7,340 yards; Course rating 75.6, Slope – 134. The Island course has been rated by Golf Digest as “One of the Country's Top 50 Resort Courses”. This course will begin to challenge you with lateral water hazards with level terrain, moving to rolling hills dominated by cypress and pine trees, and finishing with holes to reward the bold, yet penalize the errant golf shot. Par 72; 7,065 yards; Course rating 74.1, Slope – 132. Tall pine trees, undulating greens, rolling hills, strategically placed bunkers and water hazards require a premium on accuracy and shot making on the Highlands North course. It also features five of the most difficult par three holes at the resort, along with perhaps the most difficult green at the resort on the 14th hole. The Highlands South course proves to be as majestic and awe-inspiring as the mighty eagles that have lived at Innisbrook for over 25 years. The design of the course and actual construction was all planned with the very important goal of maintaining the eagle's natural nesting areas and surroundings. This course features elevation and movement throughout the entire 18 holes, along with the longest par 5 in the state of Florida, being the 13th hole, measuring 650 yards from the tips. Other resort amenities include: a jogging course, mini golf, a nature boardwalk, fishing and water volleyball. Packard’s Steakhouse feature Angus beef, coupled with a fabulous wine and Martini list. We also recommend Bamboo’s Caribbean Café for a taste of the Islands, and the other restaurants at the resort. The resort is located on the West Coast of Central Florida just five miles from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, and 25 miles west of downtown Tampa and Tampa International Airport.
