Bermuda- Feel the Love

Golf Exclusives has never been to Bermuda, but as a travel person, it has always been high on my list of places to see before I die, as the guide goes.

Recently I got to know the local Bemuda tourist office representative. She and I discussed all of the benefits of golf on the island. I want to share them with you.

The Mid Ocean Club is the premier course on the island It will be the scene for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. See details to your left.

The winners of the year's Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship earned the right to compete on the 6,520-yard, par-70 layout that was designed by Charles Blair Macdonald in 1921, and modified in the 1950s by the late Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Beside the Mid Ocean Club, there are seven other courses on the island They are: Port Royal Golf Course, Riddells Bay Golf and Country Club, Tuckers Point Golf Club, Belmont Hills Golf Club, and three shorter courses, the Fairmont Southampton , St George's and Ocean View

Home to the 2007 PGA Grand Slam, the Mid Ocean Club is a private club with a championship 18-hole golf course. Ranked by experts as one of the best courses in the world, Mid Ocean emphasises the long game with six par 4s over 400 yards. Accuracy and concentration are required to play a reasonable round here as traps and the beauty of the ocean vie for your attention.

A dramatically re-designed championship golf course crafted by Roger Rulewich, former senior designer for Robert Trent Jones and chief designer of the Port Royal course, who transformed the former Castle Harbour golf course. Newly designed holes and greens boast dramatic views and re-contoured fairways and bunkers.

At Riddell's Bay, holes are placed perilously close to the ocean heighten the challenge at this, the elder statesman of Bermuda country clubs. Since 1922, golfers have marvelled at the requirements of accuracy of this tight course. At the country club you will find a pro shop as well as dining options.

Tucker's Point is a dramatically re-designed championship golf course crafted by Roger Rulewich, former senior designer for Robert Trent Jones, who transformed the former Castle Harbour golf course.
Visitors must reserve tee times 48 hours in advance to play at this private club.

Belmont Hills has recently renovated its course, the result is a more challenging par 70 course featuring faster TifEagle greens and man-made lakes separated by a waterfall. The excellent ocean views and tropical landscaping also add to the new course's appeal.

Another of Bermuda's courses designed by architect Robert Trent Jones, St. George's is short at only 4,043 yards, therefore requiring dexterous short play and careful club selection.

Using my knowledge of your accommodations likes and dislikes, I am recommending three properties on the island for your golf trip. If these don't appeal to you, please ask me for other options.

Horizons & Cottages has two lounges, games room, library, dining room, cocktail lounge and English pub. Large patio with ocean view. Traditional afternoon tea. Winter in Middleton Room for breakfast and dinner, lunch in English pub. Summer breakfast and dinner on Ocean Terrace, lunch on pool patio or in pub. Weekly barbeques on Barbeque Terrace. Dine around with sister properties, Coral Beach & Tennis Club and Waterloo House.

Accommodations include a choice of rooms or suites in the main hotel, or laniais and suites on the grounds. Extensive private, pink sand beach with cabanas, beach rentals, and full amenities.

The Fairmont Hamilton Princess overlooks picturesque Hamilton Harbour, and is located just steps from the heart of Hamiton. The Fairmont Hamilton Princess opened its doors in 1885 and ever since has been at the centre of Bermuda's social and business. Large freshwater heated pool and patio on harbour's edge, smaller saltwater pool and putting green. Shopping arcade and beauty salon with spa services. Five minutes' stroll to Hamilton centre. Complimentary ferry service to the Fairmont Southampton, with full exchange privileges and use of private beach, spa, tennis, and golf facilities.
