Golf in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico   It is the perfect time of year to plan a trip to Mexico, to warm up, and regroup after the holidays. As a service to our readers, we went to Puerto Vallarta in October to scout out the golf offerings in this area. It was very hot, but duty calls. It is relatively easy to get to Puerto Vallarta from most major cities in the US, especially by charter air. From the airport there, you can go south and visit and stay in old Puerto Vallarta, or venture north, and stay in the hotel zone in the state of Nayarit. We visited old Puerto Vallarta for sightseeing and dinner, but stayed in the new hotel zone. The hotel zone is developing an area like Riviera Maya, which is south of Cancun. It is an area of larger hotels and resorts that appeal to American taste. In the hotel zone are resorts like the Vallarta Palace where we stayed to the Grand Velas, which is 5 star, and many others like the Marival Resort. A resort for every taste.... from moderate, first class to absolute luxury....Vallarta Nayarit has it all! In the not too distant past, when someone thought of golf in Mexico, they thought only of Cabo San Lucas. Now after years of development, Vallarta-Nayarit has earned well deserved recognition as a world class golf destination. Years ago, there were only two courses in the Vallarta area; Flamingos, Vallarta's oldest course, and Marina Vallarta, located in nearby Puerto Vallarta. But the blending of championship golf with the incredible backdrop of tropical forests, mountains, and breathtaking views of Banderas bay creates a powerful and heady mix.
