Golf Exclusives E-Newsletter - July 1, 2003
Editor: Mike Fitzgerald
Editors Note
This newsletter is a little tardy. I apologize to the readers that have been asking about the Newsletter, but it is summer in Chicago, and that means golf. I had a bad case of writers block… meaning golf came before writing. We have played a lot of golf so far in July. Today it is raining, so writing is a lot easier.
Here is a golf joke to get us started: " If I hit it right it's a slice. If I hit it left it's a hook. If I hit it straight it's a miracle! " Author unknown.
Welcome to the Golf Exclusives Hole In One Club
All of us love to get a hole in one, and when we do to brag about it to our friends, relatives and fellow golfers. With that in mind we created a club, so you can publicize your skill(luck) and also get a reward.
The first 2 charter members of our club are also partners of Golf Exclusives. They are: Betty Fitzgerald, my wife who got her hole in one in June 2000. She aced the 110 yard, 7th hole at Old Wayne, using a 4 iron. Our most recent inductee is Marie Schumacher. She aced the 8 th hole at Davenport Country Club on July 19th using a 5 wood . Congratulations to both.
If you or another member of your group has a hole in one in 2003, send us the information. It will be included in the next issue of our Newsletter. The golfer will receive a $25 Gift Certificate from Golf Exclusives, good for future golf travel with us.
On The Road Again
The world of golf travel has changed in 2003. Most of our trip requests are last minute for shorter stays. Many are driving to their destination. The most often requested package this summer for us en Garland, a resort we have been featuring since 1999, when we first visited them.
Here is an update on this AAA 4 Diamond resort located in the center of northern Michigan. You will see that it has more to offer than just golf.
Spread out over 3500 acres, Garland features picturesque topography and abundant wildlife. Enjoy plush, comfortable rooms in a natural setting. Fine dining is available on property, along with a fully stocked pro shop. A huge putting green is centered in the middle of the accommodations area, and a grass driving range is nearby. All this - just 3 ˝ hours from Metro Detroit. The four golf courses on property are rated 3 ˝ to 4 ˝ stars (Golf Digest).
Fountains is Garland's premier layout - and rated as one of the top courses in Michigan. Elevation changes, rolling topography, secluded tree-lined fairways, an abundance of hazards and top-notch conditioning make this a challenging and beautiful layout. A truly fun and memorable round of golf! Swampfire is A 4 star course (Golf Digest) with water hazards on 16 holes. The 14th-18th sequence is one of the state's best. This is a camera-ready course, and one of the most beautiful designs at Garland. It can play long, so be ready to grip it and rip it! Monarch has lots of wildlife on this layout. Water hazards are in play on 14 holes, and the two opening holes will require your best. There is considerable length from the tips, so long hitters will love this course. Exquisite bunkering and mature trees lining the fairways make this a visually pleasing design. The general consensus is that the Reflections is the most playable layout at Garland. Though fairly flat, there are some extremely interesting holes with elevation changes. The rustic design of this layout separates it from the others on property. The greens are the easiest to read of the group. Four top-notch golf courses on one property - at one of the top golf resorts in the Midwest. This is a great grand prize
Garland will be continuing it's highly successful 'Free Golf for Life' promotion for the 2003 season. Starting the first week of May and running through mid October, one person per week will be chosen to receive a complimentary Lifetime Golf Membership. All guests that stay with them during the 2003 golf season will be automatically entered into the drawing for each night they stay. You may also request an application to enter the drawing by mailing a letter to: Garland- Golf For Life, 4700 N. Red Oak Rd., Lewiston, MI 49756.
To entice consumers, for each person a corporation or group leader brings to Garland, that persons name or corporation will be entered into the drawing for the number of guests in the group.
There is more to Garland than golf. Here is a short list of some of the other things you can do there:
