Cold Weather Golfing
By Susan Weitzman, Golf Matters
Here are some tips on playing winter golf, once the snow clears.
- Use plastic wrapped heat pads in your gloves.
- Keep yourself and your clubs dry.
- Use more club and shorten your swing to conserve energy.
- Use 80 compression balls on colder days.

On the Road Again
Soon
This part of the newsletter is normally devoted to a review of courses
we have recently visited. This time, it's to revisit a resort I
went to long ago, and which Betty and I and friends will visit again
in March.
Callaway Gardens GA is about 60 miles
southwest of Atlanta. Is there a relationship to Callaway Golf Equipment?
No. Cason Callaway, a textile baron, started this resort in the
early 1900s to create a resort with a wholesome family area, much
like Morton Arboretum in Chicagoland. The BIG difference is that
they have 63 holes of golf!
Three words stand out from my previous trip to Callaway:
Value, Golf, and Food!. This resort gives you much more for
your dollar than most comparable resorts in the U.S.
Callaway has 63 holes of championship
golf surrounded by crystal lakes, wooded shore and lush landscape
(sweet azalea blooms) It reminds me of Amen Corner at the Masters.
The courses are Mountain View, home
of the PGA Buick Challenge, held each Fall, Lake
View, with nine water holes, Garden
View, the original course in an incredible setting, and Sky
View, a nine-hole course for families and warm-ups.
Do you enjoy southern style cooking like hams breads jellies and
desserts? Do you like plenty to eat? Then this is the place for
you. Eating was a highlight for me when I last visited. I have been
told that it has only gotten better, with seven restaurants on property.
Callaway Gardens is also a great family
destination. Activities include bird watching, fly-fishing, swimming,
hiking and biking, boating, and a gun club. Something for every
interest.
If you are an avid golfer, and/or want to take your family to a
great family vacation destination, call me today.
